Yard Sail, Site Specific Installation // outdoor / back

Yard Sail is a site specific installation that incorporates studio work created for the outdoor space and also a great deal of creation done within the space itself, directly responding to the environment and a specific time-frame. Yard Sail addresses issues of anxiety and loss that occur from the confrontation with deterioration and aging. There is an inevitability in this piece, that the fabrics and paint with suffer changes and possible destruction from the process of being exposed to the elements over a six-week time period. There is also a strong element of celebration and collaboration with the force of the elements: in some areas I used water based paints that are waiting to respond to rain, that are in fact further enhanced and enlivened by the presence of water. Additionally, the materials play off of, and honor their submergence in natural sunlight. The use of color and light allude to the awakening of life, light and spring.
